Be cheerful. Keep things in good repair. Keep your spirits up. Think in harmony. Be agreeable. Do all that, and the God of love and peace will be with you for sure.
2 Cor 13:11-12 (The Message)
Many comments have been made over the recent riots in the UK, and much blame has been apportioned ranging from bad parenting, social deprivation as well as what the government can or does not do.
Blaming others is easy, and it’s something that’s common in the workplace as well. Job losses, poor working conditions and bad decisions are all blamed on management by those under them, and on workers at the bottom of the corporate ladder, by those in senior positions.
However, it is within this blame culture that Christians can really stand out – not by joining in the blame game but by doing something positive, whether through encouragement, showing that there is a ‘better way’, or by doing something that relieves workplace stress and tedium.
Christians in Cardiff Council are a great example of people doing something to change the culture at work and succeeding. See the article below (God at Work in Wales) for more details.
Christians are called to make a difference, so it’s up to us to step out and let God work through us in our ‘mission field’. To help you do this in a practical way, we are organising a conference in conjunction with New Community Church Southampton, on November 26th. To find out more see the article below.
Another way in which we can stand out is to comfort and help those who are stressed. To this end we have just published a 12-page booklet written by Dr Adrian Miles which gives practical advice for avoiding and dealing with workplace stress. The booklet is free and can be ordered from the web site – see the article below for more details.
May God richly bless you this week and help you to stand out for Him
