"Blessed is the man who trusts me, God, the woman who sticks with God. They're like trees replanted in Eden, putting down roots near the rivers.
Never a worry through the hottest of summers, never dropping a leaf, serene and calm through droughts, bearing fresh fruit every season.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 THE MESSAGE
Jeremiah isn't the most uplifting book in the Bible.
Chapter after chapter Jeremiah pronounces God’s judgment on Israel and Judah – on how life as they know it was coming to an end and only despair and destruction would be left. And then right in the middle we come across the above passage that states that every man and women who trusts in Him would be blessed (in other translations the word used is ‘Happy’). And being blessed didn’t just relate to life after death, but a current life without fear or worry, where despite what was going on around them, would result in them continually being prosperous.
In these tough times where the economy is a constant worry to many, Jeremiah’s words are just as relevant to us today. No matter what goes on around us – the threat of losing our jobs; our pensions being cut – for those who trust in Him, God’s promise is that we will continue to prosper. Now that’s something to be happy about.
When those around you ask you why you’re not worried, tell them about our God who is great and loving, and full of mercy.
Have a great week,
The Transform Work Team
